Executive Coaching - Long term behavioural change in Burton’s

The client

Burton’s Foods is now the second largest biscuit manufacturer in the UK, including snacks and confectionery.

The brief

Burton’s wanted to instigate a culture change programme across their manufacturing facility in Llantarnam, Gwent. This was a successful factory - traditional, conservative and potentially resistant to change.

To continue to successfully compete in an increasingly difficult environment management attitudes and practices needed to be challenged - and where appropriate - reshaped to be forward thinking, dynamic, flexible and responsive to change.

The solution

Our chosen approach was to instigate this change process from the top down, gradually instilling a new management style across the organisation. Over a period of three years - starting with the Senior Management Team - the majority of managers in the company to supervisor level received one to one executive coaching.

The results

Company culture has radically shifted towards being more open, flexible and responsive. For example; Senior Management Team members have undergone further training to act as role models for the rest of the organisation in the giving and receiving of feedback- uncommon in the past but now an integral contributor to the company’s development.

The factory is actively promoted as a model of best practice within Burtons. It continues to be productive, profitable and a place where people genuinely enjoy their work.

.....the future

We continue to coach newly recruited & promoted managers.

Workshops establishing feedback as a common practice are being run across the organisation.

“ What’s impressed me about the work we’ve undertaken with Joe and TMS is that we’ve enabled many people here to realise their full personal potential ”  Adrian Baines, General Manager
